The purpose of the Director of Business Attraction is to support the Knoxville Chamber’s mission of driving regional economic prosperity by focusing efforts on new business recruitment and existing business growth in Knox County, TN. Applications close on 2/14/2020.

Reports to: Vice President of Economic Development

Job type: Full-time | Regular | 37.5+ hrs/wk | Exempt

Essential functions:

  • Day-to-day project management of recruits, retentions & expansions, maintaining confidentiality when appropriate
  • Schedule and host company/consultant site visits for companies contemplating a location in Knox County, TN.
  • Participate in ED marketing activities
  • Seek companies and offer support to foster business growth opportunities in Chamber’s Path to Prosperity Plan strategic platforms: Communication, Health, Movement, Power, and Security.
  • Committee management as assigned
  • Attends and participates in economic development meetings as required
  • Build and maintain business relationships key local, regional, and State economic development allies, area brokers/developers and contractors
  • Respond to project inquiries, including building/land search, demographics, community and business climate information, incentives, utilities, permitting, transportation, etc.
  • Maintain a current U.S. consultant database
  • Be knowledgeable of area business sector, available building/land locations, community overview, key community assets
  • Assist VP of Economic Development as requested

Technical Skills required:

This position requires:

  • Proficient in MS programs, Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of all State and Local incentives as well as tax structures

Minimum qualifications:

College graduate or equivalent training or experience. Important Knowledge areas: basic finance, computer skills, project planning, sales process/administration, customer service, writing, and communications skills.

This position requires:

College degree required; 3 years of economic development experience; real estate marketing experience helpful. The ability to multi-task and be flexible in a rapid-paced environment is essential. Interpersonal skills, written, verbal, and presentation skills are of high importance. Candidate should be proficient in Microsoft office suite, hold a college degree, and have a valid driver’s license. Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation is preferred.
