McGhee Tyson Airport is proud to announce the arrival of a long-requested airline that will begin offering service to four major U.S. cities: Nashville, TN; Dallas, TX; Baltimore/Washington; and Orlando, FL. This new airline addition not only answers the call from East Tennesseeans who have sought this airline for decades, but also significantly expands travel options, economic opportunity, and tourism for the entire region.

“This is a proud and exciting moment for our region,” said Patrick Wilson, President of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority. “The arrival of this airline reflects years of hard work, strong partnerships, and a shared commitment to growing our community. These flights will make travel more convenient, boost tourism, and drive meaningful economic development throughout East Tennessee.”

Bringing Southwest Airlines to McGhee Tyson Airport has been a collaborative effort, made possible thanks to the dedication and support of many partners. The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority extends its sincere appreciation to:

  • Governor Bill Lee
  • Commissioner Mark Ezell, Tennessee Department of Tourism Development
  • Mayor Indya Kincannon
  • UT President & CEO Randy Boyd
  • Dollywood Parks and Resorts
  • Knoxville Chamber
  • Visit Knoxville
  • Blount Partnership
  • Sevier County Tourism Agencies (Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, Sevier County)

Each of these organizations played a critical role in helping bring this airline to our airport and our community. Their shared vision and advocacy have helped make this decades-long dream a reality.

“This airline’s investment in East Tennessee is a testament to the strength and vibrancy of our region,” said Mayor Kincannon. “We’re grateful for their confidence in our market, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact these new flights will bring to travelers, businesses, and families alike.”
