Haslam College of Business Researchers to Study Startup Workforce
Researchers from University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business, with support from the Knoxville Chamber, are studying the startup workforce in our region. Participation is open to owners and employees (i.e., including 1099 contractors) of businesses within our region that are less than 10 years old. All participants should be at least 18 years of age and understand English. The results of this study will help inform our understanding of new venture work and improve how our business community is served by local resources.
Business owners who opt to participate will complete a one-time assessment requiring approximately 10 minutes of time. We will ask you to describe your new venture(s) and refer employees and startup contractors to us so they can participate as well. Your privacy and individual responses will be kept confidential, and all who participate will receive a $10 Amazon gift card for participating and a summary of the study’s findings, including benchmarking data on compensation and management practices. Employees who participate will complete a one-time intake assessment requiring approximately 20 minutes of time, and then be sent a brief (approximately 2 minute) assessment once a week over two quarters. Your privacy and individual responses will be kept confidential. As a “thank you” for completing the study, you will receive a $15 Amazon gift card for participating and designate an additional $15 donation toward an approved charity.
