The East Tennessee Community Design Center (ETCDC) has announced Ellie Kittrell as its new Executive Director.

A forward-thinking strategic leader with a track record of building inclusive systems and community-driven initiatives, Kittrell brings 15 years of nonprofit leadership experience to the role. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Advancement at United Way of Greater Knoxville. Prior to that, she spent nearly a decade at Muse Knoxville, including almost eight years as Executive Director.

“I believe strong communities are built through intentional design and collaboration,” Kittrell said. “ETCDC has a powerful legacy of using design to solve real challenges across our region. I’m honored to step into this role and continue advancing work that strengthens neighborhoods, supports nonprofits, and creates spaces where individuals and families can thrive.”

Founded in 1970, ETCDC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in East Tennessee through design. ETCDC connects communities with volunteer architects, planners, designers, and other professionals to provide pro bono planning, design, and technical services for projects that enhance public spaces.

“Ellie’s strategic mindset, collaborative leadership style, and deep roots in the Knoxville community make her an exceptional fit for ETCDC’s next chapter,” said Carey Parker, Chair of the ETCDC Board of Directors. “Her ability to navigate complexity while keeping people at the center of the work will help us continue expanding our impact across the region.”

Kittrell succeeds Duane Grieve, who led the organization for the past eight years. Her appointment marks a new chapter for ETCDC as it builds on 55 years of community-centered design work throughout East Tennessee.
