North Knoxville Medical Center celebrated the official ribbon cutting of Tennova Primary Care – North on Feb. 3rd, marking an important milestone in expanding primary care access for the growing North Knoxville community.

The new clinic was established to support both community health needs and the continued growth of North Knoxville Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) Internal Medicine Residency Program. Tennova Primary Care – North provides a supportive, real-world clinical setting where internal medicine residents can deliver high-quality care to patients.

Bill Rich, North Knoxville Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, emphasized Tennova’s commitment to investing in community-based healthcare and physician training: “This clinic represents our dedication to caring for our community today while preparing the physicians who will care for it tomorrow,” he said. “By expanding access to primary care and supporting our residency program, we are strengthening the future of healthcare in North Knoxville.”

Douglas Leahy, M.D., Director of North Knoxville Medical Center’s GME Residency program, emphasized the clinic’s role in fostering continuity of care and supporting resident education: “Our goal is to create a welcoming and supportive space where patients feel cared for and residents feel empowered to grow as physicians,” Leahy said. “This clinic allows us to build meaningful relationships with patients while ensuring access to quality primary care for those who need it most.”

Tennova Primary Care – North will serve as a key access point for preventive care, chronic disease management, and continuity of care, while reinforcing Tennova Healthcare’s mission to provide compassionate, patient-centered services across the region.
