New Corporate Campus Significant Economic Win for Knox County

Today the Knoxville Chamber, in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, City of Knoxville, and Knox County, performed a groundbreaking for Greenheck Group’s new corporate campus at Midway Business Park.

Originally announced last April, Greenheck Group selected Knox County for its fourth corporate campus, with the initial phase expected to generate 440 new jobs through its growth-driven expansion efforts. Greenheck Group, headquartered in Wisconsin, is one of the state’s largest privately owned manufacturers. The company specializes in manufacturing industrial ventilation equipment, which can be found in schools, malls, office spaces, and industrial plants. Today, Greenheck Group employs more than 5,400 people across its operations in the U.S., Mexico, and India.

The site in Knox County was selected from 213 potential east coast markets in ten states. Greenheck purchased the entirety of Midway Business Park with the campus site planned to be upwards of 330 acres. The initial phase includes two 200,000-square-foot factories with a connecting office. The first facility is expected to be operational in fall 2026.

In addition to celebrating the groundbreaking, the announcement highlighted Greenheck Group’s strong commitment to corporate citizenship in Carter and the surrounding communities. From the moment the site was selected, Greenheck Group began working closely with Knox County Schools to enhance access to STEM education at Carter High School and throughout the school system via a partnership with Engineering Tomorrow.

As part of this ongoing commitment, Greenheck Group is collaborating with Carter High School to establish a student-run, school-based engineering and manufacturing enterprise. This initiative includes up to $2 million in support and will provide students with valuable hands-on experiences in engineering and manufacturing, helping connect classroom learning to real-world career opportunities.

QUOTES:

“Greenheck Group’s decision to locate in Knox County represents one of the largest manufacturing projects to land in this community in the last decade, and today, it is an honor to take part in officially welcoming Greenheck Group to Tennessee. This company is committed to becoming a true community partner, working with Knox County students to enhance access to STEM education, and we look forward to seeing the impact this $300 million investment and these 440 new jobs will bring to this region.” — TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter

“The Midway business park was an important project and priority of my administration when I was Knox County Mayor. But we knew it wouldn’t be possible without an open and transparent approach that included input from all concerned parties, including members of the community. What we learned is that we all wanted to recruit modern manufacturers – not smokestacks – and good paying jobs for the folks in East Knox County. And I’m proud that plan has become a reality.” – Congressman Tim Burchett

“The Greenheck Group is a terrific corporate citizen and another proud example of our commitment to retaining and attracting a wide variety of jobs and businesses to Knox County. I want to thank Mike Odom and his team at the Knoxville Chamber for helping to recruit such an amazing company that has even more room for growth. When all is said and done, Greenheck may very well be one of the biggest economic development projects in Knox County history.” – Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs

“We heartily welcome Greenheck Group. Greenheck looked at more than 200 sites in 10 states, and they chose us. Their investment will create hundreds of new high-wage jobs and help build up our community. They chose to be here because of our good schools, smart government services, and the quality-of-life amenities that help recruit and retain talent.” – Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon

“A healthy blend of collaborative spirit and assertive action can be a powerful combination. Today’s groundbreaking is representative of so many organizations working together. From state and local government to utilities and boards to developers and neighbors, we are proud of the teamwork this project highlights. Our community was determined and passionate and the reward is a great new corporate partner. Thank you for choosing us, Greenheck.” – Mike Odom, Knoxville Chamber president and CEO

“What drew us to Knoxville were the people whose values mirror the principles our company was built upon – good people who measure success not just by what they achieve, but by how they lift others along the way. This new Greenheck Group campus represents our commitment to planting seeds that will grow into meaningful opportunities for families throughout the region. We’re honored to become friends and neighbors with the good people of Tennessee and to build something together that enhances lives and creates a legacy of positive impact for generations to come.” – Rich Totzke, Greenheck Group co-CEO

“From the beginning, Greenheck made it clear they wanted to invest in a community that values workforce preparation, and our 865 Academies provided the perfect opportunity to align education with industry needs. This partnership reflects what’s possible when we connect students to industry experiences, and we look forward to the lasting impact it will have on our students and our local economy.” –  Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk
