Fairview Technology Center

Not all businesses are ready to purchase property or lease space in one of our local business parks. However, some of these business ideas, given the appropriate type of support, can grow to have a significant impact on the Knox County economy. That is where the Fairview Technology Center comes in. Our strategy is simple – provide a nurturing environment for small, start-up, technology based firms for a limited time so that they can move into market-rate office/manufacturing space as quickly as possible, with as many high paying jobs as possible. Fairview Technology Center consists of 13 leasable offices, ranging in size from 650 to 1,230 square feet.

What is the Fairview Technology Center?

Fairview Technology Center’s mission is to support the creation and success of growth-based businesses by providing an affordable work environment maximizing their limited start-up capital. By offering quality office and laboratory space, Fairview makes it possible to focus limited capital on research and development and future production of services and goods. Thus, it provides assistance to companies when they need it in their formative years.

Fairview’s goal is to enable young companies to move into private, market-rate space when they are financially capable. Companies entering Fairview should leave as stronger and more mature companies, going on to succeed and create wealth in our community. While most companies entering Fairview have extensive expertise in their core products or services, there is often a disconnect or lack of experience in general business skills. In an effort to provide tenant companies with access to people and organizations that can provide these general business skills, members of the Fairview Advisory Board are available to advise tenants and evaluate prospective companies considering locating at the Fairview Technology Center.

Tenant Selection and Eligibility

All interested tenants shall complete an application in order to be considered for tenancy in the building. Applications will be reviewed by the Fairview Advisory Board. The Board will also review a business plan submitted by all applicants. The Board will carefully review an applicant’s location at the time of consideration as well as the number of persons they employ in order to determine if the company meets the objectives of the Fairview Technology. An applicant’s eligibility and priority status will be decided upon by the Board. If space is available in the building and the application is approved, the space will be offered to eligible tenants on a combination priority and first-come, first-served basis.

Agriwater implements onsite wastewater treatment systems for livestock farmers to ease the burden of waste management. Agriwater benefits livestock farms by maintaining environmental compliance, creating an additional water source, and providing recurring revenue streams from the sale of carbon credits.

By conveniently locating the water treatment technology on-site, livestock farms benefit from cost savings in water bills while maintaining environmental compliance, further eliminating costly clean water violations. The main treatment device uses electrolysis to precipitate contaminants from manure liquid. The resulting treated water eliminates the foul odor, toxins, and GHGs.

Agriwater has completed a successful proof-of-concept and is developing a production-scale solution in partnership with the Oak Ridge National Lab through the Department of Energy’s Innovation Crossroads program.

DayLyte Batteries is commercializing a Metal-air (M-Air) battery to increase battery energy density, cut its weight in half and slash its costs with abundant materials to release renewable energy on demand, double the range and cut the costs of electric vehicles while enabling drone delivery and electric air taxis to take our packages, and us, wherever we’d like. Working with the scientists and facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), DayLyte intends to complete a prototype, start long term life testing, and begin pilot scale production.

Around the world approximately 40% of food is wasted, a staggering amount. This waste poses a substantial burden on land-fills and accounts for 18% of methane emissions in the U.S., which is a 25 times more potent greenhouse gas compared to CO2. As a result, many states are working to reduce organics in the landfill. Additionally, transportation and industry account for almost 50% of CO2 emissions in the U.S., with far-reaching impacts. Renewable energy sources are needed to combat this, and 29 states have realized this need and implemented renewable fuel portfolios while over 50 cities have adopted ambitious 100% clean energy goals.

Electro-Active Technologies is developing a modular system that can be placed onsite or in a decentralized location to produce renewable hydrogen from organic waste. This will enable companies and communities to reinvest their waste for added value and improved sustainability.

A talented protein – NELL1 is a matricellular signaling protein expressed in a wide variety of tissues. NELL1 is highly expressed during fetal development, the naturally regenerative phase of human life and the only time when the body experiences true regeneration and scarless healing.

NELL1 serves the damaged soft and hard tissue of the body as a General Contractor does a damaged building, by arranging and directing resources until the restoration is complete. Then, like the General Contractor, NELL1 turns off.
