National Goodwill Week Brings Job Fair, Donor Day, Sales and New Social Media ChallengeMay 02, 2017
During the week of May 8 through 12, Goodwill agencies and community partners across the United States will celebrate National Goodwill Week. Goodwill Industries-Knoxville will be sharing their mission and their clients’ successes through local events and promotions, including Goodwill’s annual Knoxville Job Fair and the new Goodwill Week Challenge.
The annual Knoxville Job Fair will be held on Tuesday, May 9 from 9am to 11am at the Bearden Goodwill, located at 5307 Kingston Pike. 27 local business representatives will be on-site ready to talk about potential employment opportunities in and around the Knoxville community. Confirmed businesses include Covenant Health, Kroger, Knoxville Utilities Board, Lowes, Sitel, UT Medical Center, University of Tennessee, Walgreens, WestRock and many others.
The job fair is free and open to the public; anybody currently seeking employment is encouraged to attend. Goodwill’s computer lab will be available for individuals seeking resume assistance or wishing to apply for positions online.
Goodwill will also host a Donor Appreciation Day on Thursday, May 11 from 9am to 12pm at the Bearden Goodwill donation doors. Donors are encouraged to donate during this time and stop for snacks and conversation about the impact that their donations make on the community.
New to this year, Goodwill is hosting the Goodwill Week Challenge. Thrift shoppers are encouraged to share their Goodwill purchases on social media and tagging Goodwill Industries-Knoxville on Facebook or @goodwillknoxville on Instagram. For a true challenge, shoppers can choose to post a Goodwill outfit each day.
Throughout the week, customers are invited to ask about Goodwill’s mission to save 15% on their entire purchase. Staff members are prepared to educate customers about Goodwill’s job training programs and employment services for individuals with barriers to employment; these programs are primarily funded through the sale of donated items in Goodwill’s 28 regional retail stores.
Additionally, students across Knox, Anderson and Hamblen County elementary and middle schools will be participating in the annual Sack Pack Donation Drive, where they are encouraged to bring gently used clothing and household items to school to support Goodwill’s job training programs.
