The Knoxville Chamber is pleased to announce Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) as the recipient of the Pinnacle Business Award in the Impact category. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to ensuring reliable service in electricity, water, sewer, and gas, KUB’s mission is simple yet vital: make sure everything works when you need it the most. The Impact Award is presented to a non-charitable business that displays a commitment to making East Tennessee a better place to live through the development and support of a community project or program.

“The true reward for us is seeing the impact we can make on people’s lives,” Gabe Bolas, CEO of KUB, shared. “We’re fully invested every day, and our team is dedicated to providing reliable service while giving back to the community in meaningful ways.”

Since its inception, KUB has embraced a forward-thinking approach that adapts to the community’s evolving needs. Five years ago, KUB recognized the growing need for reliable broadband services, which was especially highlighted during the pandemic. Through their efforts, KUB has provided access to essential services, improving connectivity for individuals and families across Knoxville. Through initiatives like “Connect,” which provides free home internet to children in Knox County Schools, KUB helps bridge the digital divide and ensure all students have the resources they need to succeed.

“When a company invests in local initiatives—whether through volunteer work, financial contributions, or building internal support systems—it demonstrates a genuine commitment to the well-being of the community,” said Mike Odom, Knoxville Chamber president and CEO. “We appreciate the hard work KUB is doing to give back to the community, everything from weatherization to social work programs.”

The annual Pinnacle Business Awards, presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners, celebrate regional business excellence, honoring outstanding professionals in nine categories for their contributions to the greater Knoxville economy. Winners are selected by the Knoxville Chamber Board of Directors. Approximately 200 companies are nominated annually for recognition.

“Congratulations to the 2025 Pinnacle Business Award winners,” said Mike DiStefano, Pinnacle’s Knoxville president. “Pinnacle Financial Partners is a values-driven organization. So many of the values we focus on – integrity, results, discipline – are also evident in this year’s winners. We know it takes an unwavering focus and commitment of leadership to make any business work, and we are proud to recognize these Knoxville-area companies and individuals for their business excellence. Pinnacle looks forward to supporting and seeing these organizations flourish as we all work together toward the same goal: a prosperous Knoxville economy.”
