Technical Education: A Vital Element in Today's Workforce Development

As the month of February comes to a close, so does a public awareness campaign recognizing an important educational initiative and career path choice.  

Many people don’t know this, but February is not only Black History Month and American Heart Month, it also serves as CTE Month® by the Association for Career and Technical Education. This is a campaign held throughout the month to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs across the county.

Gov. Bill Haslam’s 2016 State of the State Address: What You Need to Know

On Feb. 1, Gov. Bill Haslam delivered his 2016 State of the State and Budget Address before a joint session of the 109th General Assembly. It was his sixth time giving his address, meaning only two more before his tenure as governor of Tennessee comes to a close.

“For me, these speeches serve as milestones, status updates on the state of Tennessee, and as a reminder of why we are here,” he said.

5 Digital Marketing Tips to Keep in Mind for 2016

Throughout the month of January, the Chamber hosted its first-ever Digital Marketing Series, which took a new spin on its annual social media seminar series. It allowed for a more comprehensive look into the latest digital marketing tools and strategies available to businesses.

The series featured four local digital media experts:

President Obama Visits Innovation Valley

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden visited Knoxville to announce a new education initiative and a new manufacturing hub.

Obama and Biden first visited Pellissippi State Community College to announce the proposed America’s College Promise program to a packed auditorium. This program, inspired by Gov. Bill Haslam’s Tennessee Promise, provides students two years of free community college or technical school as long as they meet certain benchmarks like maintaining a 2.5 GPA and part-time student status.
