SmartFIX40 Realigns Streets But Downtown is Open and Accessible
The Tennessee Department of Transportation recently opened the new extension of Hall of Fame Drive in downtown Knoxville. This new section of roadway will provide westbound traffic with easy access to downtown while work continues on the realignment of James White Parkway.
James White was closed on December 17th and is expected to remain closed for ten months. Work crews will be improving the Interstate exits and entrances from James White Parkway and preparing for future work to be done to I-40 through downtown.

When completed, the SmartFIX40 project will add one additional through-lane in each direction on I-40 bringing it to 6 lanes. Auxiliary lanes will also be added between I-275 and James White Parkway and between Broadway and Cherry Street. Hall of Fame Drive will be a new 4-lane street.
Portable construction cameras have been added in the SmartFIX40 project area to provide real-time traffic images. Click here to view images from these cameras before beginning your trip through downtown.
