Former Senator Bill Frist Discusses SCORE Final Report at Chamber

KNOXVILLE, TN - Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist recently presented area businesspeople a State Collaborative on Reforming Education final report update at the Knoxville Chamber. As Chairman of SCORE, Senator Frist says he’s well aware of the improvements needed within this area’s education system.

“People have told me they think our education system is OK," he said. "But in reality, our state [test scores] aren't as high as we think they are. We need to change our culture of education."

Senator Frist believes setting higher education goals is the way to enhance our education system. The board certified surgeon says envisioning a brighter education future is the only way to achieve our goals.

“We have a vision and a goal," he said. "The goal is to be number one in education in the Southeast within five years and I know it can be done.

Dr. Frist and Tennessee SCORE have developed four key strategies to acheive the goal. Embracing high standards, cultivating strong leaders, ensuring excellent teachers, and utilizing data to enhance learning will help Tennessee become the Southeast's top education achiever.
