The Knoxville Chamber is pleased to announce Katy Richardson as the recipient of the Pinnacle Business Award in the Young Entrepreneur category. Richardson is the founder and CEO of Barre Skinny, LLC, the franchising company of Neighborhood Barre Fitness Studios. Barre is a unique workout style that incorporates elements from Pilates, dance conditioning, and weight training. The Young Entrepreneur award, sponsored by Rodefer Moss & Co., is presented to a young professional who lives and works in East Tennessee and has achieved success while overcoming obstacles, to become one of tomorrow’s top business leaders.

“I am so honored to be recognized as this year’s winner of the Young Entrepreneur Award. This business has taken me on some wild rides, but the past two years have challenged me beyond what I ever thought possible,” said Richardson. “Winning a Pinnacle Award has always been a goal of mine, but to win two back-to-back? I still can’t believe it! I am absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude for the recognition and for this community.”

Katy was an entry-level corporate auditor in early 2011 when she decided that her career path wasn’t fulfilling her dreams. Richardson made the brave move to Knoxville, where she had no ties, eight months later to open the first Neighborhood Barre location. Fast-forward to 2021, and Neighborhood Barre has grown to 22 locations and is now available to franchise. Pivoting to virtual experiences during the COVID pandemic allowed Richardson’s clients to further their fitness goals from the safety of their home. Neighborhood Barre experienced revenue growth while the industry itself was experiencing a loss of 58 percent.

“It’s exciting that young entrepreneurs around the country view Knoxville as an attractive location to start a business. Our community is fortunate to have been selected as Neighborhood Barre’s launching point,” said Mike Odom, Knoxville Chamber president and CEO. “I am thankful for the contributions being made by individuals like Katy Richardson who continue to drive regional economic prosperity.”
