
What's The Big Idea?! - 2012 Business Plan Competition
Recognizing the impact of entrepreneurism on the economic vitality of our region, The Development Corporation of Knox County, the Knoxville Chamber, and Tech2020 have partnered to present "What's The Big Idea?!" a business plan competition.
If you have an idea for a new business and need some help moving it from concept to market, this competition is for you! The "Big Idea" will be one that is progressive, unique, and has the potential to create job growth. Click here to download the application form.
The four-stage process will recognize 12 quarterfinalists, six semifinalists, and three finalists over a two month period beginning in April. The competition includes four "Idea Launch" seminars for the 12 quarterfinalists, teaching them how to navigate the various stages of launching a business.
The winner will be selected during the "What's The Big Idea?!" Grand Finale on June 14 and the winner will receive:
- $10,000 cash grant for start-up costs
- $15,000 potential equity investment by Oak Ridge National Laboratory & CROET
- One-year's rent at the Fairview Technology Center
- Services provided by: Rodefer Moss & Company (accounting), CEO Advisors (business coaching), The IT Company & Digital Crossing Networks (IT hosting and services), Kathleen Zitzman (legal services), Knoxville Chamber (membership), and Tech2020 (business coaching)

May 24 - 6 Semifinalists Deliver 10-minute Pitches to Judging Committee/3 Finalists Selected
June 14 - What's the Big Idea?! Finale - 3 Finalists Deliver 10-minute and Pitches/Winner Announced
*Attendance at each of the four Idea Launch Seminars is mandatory for the 12 quarterfinalists. Each of the seminars will be held between 6 - 8 p.m. at the Knoxville Chamber, 17 Market Square, #201.
